What it is & what it offers

Neck lift — the detail that makes all the difference

Neck lifting (neck lift) is a surgical solution for treating sagging, loss of contour and tissue descent in the neck area. The purpose of the procedure is not simply to "stretch" the skin, but the deep reconstruction of the neck muscles, offering a firm, smooth and youthful appearance, without altering the natural features and anatomy of the area. There is no single strict age. Depending on anatomy and needs, it is typically performed in patients aged 45 to 65, with the greatest demand found between 50 and 55 years of age.

What we correct

When can Neck Lifting help?

The procedure targets the treatment of the signs of time and sagging exclusively in the neck area. It offers significant benefits in the following cases:

  • Skin laxity & sagging (Turkey Neck)Removes excess loose skin under the chin and along the neck.
  • Pronounced vertical bands (Platysmal Bands)Corrects and approximates the vertical cords of the platysma (neck muscle) that protrude due to ageing.
  • Localised fat accumulation (Double Chin)Reduces stubborn fat under the jaw, restoring the correct angle of the neck.
  • Loss of jawline definitionRestores the clean, youthful and well-defined angle between the chin and neck.

Beauty by Design

Neck lift tightens loose skin and underlying muscle for a firmer, more defined neck and jawline contour.

Pre-operative preparation

How to prepare for neck lift.

A thorough consultation session is essential for the patient to understand what neck lifting offers. Before surgery, a pre-operative assessment is carried out (blood tests etc.). The patient must inform the surgeon of any allergies and medications being taken. Cessation of smoking is required (usually 1 month before and 1 month after) and avoidance of alcohol. Due to the anaesthesia, abstinence from food and water for at least 6–8 hours before the procedure is mandatory.

The Procedure

How neck lift is performed step by step

01

Anaesthesia

Performed under general anaesthesia.

02

Creating the Incisions

The incisions are designed with precision to be hidden in the natural fold behind the ear, within the hairline and, if required, in a small, discreet fold under the chin.

03

Platysmaplasty & Tissue Management

The surgeon removes excess fat (often with assisted liposuction), lifts and approximates the neck muscles (platysmaplasty). Support is provided at the deep layers, aiming for stability and avoiding tension on the skin.

04

Closure

Excess skin is removed and the incisions are closed with fine sutures. After the procedure the patient is required to wear a special elastic bandage/neck strap.

01

First 24 hours

The head must remain elevated on pillows to reduce swelling. Careful use of cold compresses is recommended.

02

Sutures & Care

Sutures are removed in 10–14 days. After removal, massage of the scars with specialised silicone gel is recommended.

03

What is permitted

Shower 2 days after (keeping the area dry), hair washing 4 days after. Return to work in 1–2 weeks and driving as soon as painkillers are fully stopped.

04

What is prohibited

Intense rotational movements of the neck, strenuous activity and lifting weights for at least 4–6 weeks.

05

Risks / Complications

Possibility of haematoma, mild infection (prevented prophylactically with antibiotics), delayed healing (mainly in smokers), transient asymmetry or temporary altered skin sensation. The choice of an experienced plastic surgeon reduces risks.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about neck lift.

Yes. Neck lift is performed as a standalone procedure in patients who present with sagging, a double chin or vertical bands exclusively in the neck, while the rest of their face retains its firmness. However, if there is concurrent sagging in the cheeks and jaw, combining it with a facelift in the same surgical session is recommended for an overall and balanced result.

The incisions are designed with careful strategic precision to be discreet. They are hidden within the natural curve behind the ear and continue gently along the hairline. In cases where platysmaplasty is required, the small incision under the chin is placed in an already existing natural anatomical fold, so that after healing it is discreet.

Results typically last 5–10 years, depending on the individual. Lifting can delay the need for other treatments.
