ResultImmediate improvement towards a flatter, firmer abdomen.
Internal TighteningRestoration of the abdominal muscles' anatomical structure for a flat result from within.
CombinabilityAbdominoplasty combines well with liposuction and breast procedures as part of a combined mommy makeover.
Long-lasting ResultThe result is long-lasting as long as the patient maintains a stable weight.
What It Is – What It Offers
Abdominoplasty for the correction of skin laxity
Abdominoplasty is the surgical procedure aimed at removing excess skin and fat from the abdominal area, while also restoring the structure of weakened muscles. It is the procedure that corrects abdominal laxity caused by pregnancy or significant weight loss. The goal of the procedure is to deliver a flat, defined and firm abdomen, restoring the youthful contour of the waistline.
The procedure offers a significant restoration of the abdominal area, adapted to the body's needs. It provides benefits in the following cases:
Excess abdominal skinRemoves the "hanging" skin (apron) that does not respond to exercise.
Diastasis of the abdominal musclesCorrects the separation of the rectus abdominis muscles caused mainly by pregnancy.
Localised abdominal fatRemoves the stubborn layer of fat, also sculpting the waistline.
Marks and stretch marksRemoves part of the stretch marks and scars (e.g. from previous surgeries) located below the navel, as this section of skin is removed.
Beauty by Design
A firmer abdomen, a renewed silhouette.

Preparation before surgery
Preparation before surgery
Aiming for a safe and good result begins at the initial consultation at the practice. Dr. Athanasios Pallantzas performs a clinical examination, assessing the degree of laxity, the thickness of the fat tissue and the integrity of the muscles, in order to recommend the appropriate technique (Mini, Classic or Extended Abdominoplasty). Before the procedure, the patient must have maintained a stable body weight for at least 6 months. Surgery is preceded by a standard pre-operative assessment and a recommendation to stop smoking. On the day of surgery, the patient must be fasting.
Technique
How abdominoplasty is performed — step by step
General anaesthesia, 2–3 hours, 1 overnight stay.
01
Pre-operative Planning (Marking)
While the patient is standing, Dr. Pallantzas carries out a detailed marking of the incision lines and defines the extent of excess tissue. Marking in the standing position is fundamental, as it allows the surgeon to calculate how gravity acts on the skin, aiming for the final scar to be placed as low as possible and to be as symmetrical as possible. General anaesthesia follows.
02
The Incision
A horizontal incision is made low down, in the area between the pubic hairline and the navel. The length depends on the problem, but it is always positioned so as to be concealed by underwear. If necessary, a second small incision is made around the navel.
03
Muscle Repair & Tissue Removal
The surgeon brings together and stabilises the lax abdominal muscles (suturing of diastasis), removes the excess fat and pulls the skin downward, removing the redundant portion.
04
Closure
The navel is repositioned in its correct anatomical position and the incisions are carefully closed. A specialised elastic compression garment is applied.
Procedure profile
Abdominoplasty at a glance
Duration of surgery
2–3 hours.
Anaesthesia
General anaesthesia.
Hospital stay
Hospitalisation required for one night (1 overnight stay).
Pain
Generally well tolerated. Controlled with appropriate pain medication. A sensation of tightness, pulling and pain in the area is expected initially.
Suitable season
There is no specific recommended season.
Result
A first good impression is visible at 1–2 months. The final result is complete at 6–9 months, when the swelling has subsided and the scars have matured.
Age limit
From 18 years of age and above.
After Surgery
What to expect after abdominoplasty — Recovery
01
Support
Wearing an elastic abdominal support garment is essential for at least 3–4 weeks.
02
Movement & Posture
In the first few days, the patient walks with the torso slightly bent forward to avoid tension on the incision. Gentle mobilisation within the home is essential from the very next day to prevent complications (e.g. thrombosis), combined with the use of graduated compression stockings.
03
What is permitted
Showering is permitted 2 days after surgery. Driving is permitted normally once freedom of movement has been regained.
04
Restrictions
Lifting heavy objects is strictly prohibited for at least 6 weeks. Physical exercise resumes gradually after the 6th week, subject to medical approval.
Personalised Approach
Results
Before & After — Abdominoplasty.
Representative abdominoplasty results. Each outcome is individualised based on anatomy, degree of laxity and patient goals.
Liposuction is indicated when there is only localised fat, good skin elasticity and the muscles are in good condition. Abdominoplasty is recommended when significant skin laxity and/or diastasis recti (separation of the abdominal muscles) is also present.
Yes, pregnancy is not contraindicated and is permitted after the passage of 1 year from the procedure, so that the tissues have regained their natural ability to stretch again. However, to protect the aesthetic result of the procedure (as a new pregnancy may loosen the skin and muscles again), it is recommended that abdominoplasty be performed after the woman has completed her family planning.
Like any major surgical procedure, abdominoplasty is accompanied by possible risks, which are however reduced when the surgery is performed by a specialist Plastic Surgeon in an organised hospital clinic. The main expected complications include fluid accumulation under the skin (seroma), temporary sensory disturbances in the area (numbness) and delayed wound healing (particularly in smokers). The most serious risk, that of thromboembolism, is significantly reduced thanks to the strict intra-operative protocol, the use of graduated compression stockings and, above all, the immediate mobilisation of the patient from the very next day. Faithful adherence to post-operative instructions on the part of the patient is an important safeguard.
