A type of breast surgery that aims to correct enlarged male breasts. It can affect one or both breasts.
There are two main causes of gynecomastia:
Most cases are a mixture of both.
Gynecomastia refers to an increase in the amount of breast gland tissue in men.
Pseudogynecomastia refers to an increase in fat but not glandular tissue in male breasts.
Procedure
In gynecomastia, when the patient has an excess skin, fat and tissue, the plastic surgeon may recommend a combination of excision and liposuction. In pseudogynecomastia the plastic surgeon uses liposuction to remove breast tissue. The plastic surgeon supports every patient individually and recommends the technique that’s best for every patient.
Incision
A circular incision is usually made below the nipple, bordering the skin, in order to remove the gland. If breasts are saggy, the plastic surgeon might also perform a tightening of the breast. If gynecomastia is treated with liposuction only, very small scars (up to 4 millimeters) are made one on each side.
Cost
The cost is estimated on a case-by-case basis.
